Years ago a dear friend—Karebear, I lovingly call her—gifted me a box, a beautiful box she’d wrapped in colorful tape and sprinkled with encouraging quotes to inspire me to dream and have faith in those dreams. This box was so timely because I was in a headspace where I wanted so desperately to believe God for big dreams, impossible miracles, but I had no idea how to begin. I honestly didn’t know what to do with the box until I opened it and inside lay a turquoise and white bib with a cute little turtle that said, “worth the wait.” I immediately began to cry. She’d taken the first step and invested in my God-sized dream of wanting a family. At the time I could hardly believe anyone would choose to love me, let alone create a family with me. It was so difficult to grab hold of hope—the hope that God had for me, to prosper and not to harm me.

This thoughtful gift my incredible friend gave me became a tool I could use to start believing God for the desires of my heart, once again.

Over the years, I’ve added several items to my dream box by making small purchases that symbolize my stepping out in faith and trusting God with the deepest desires of my heart. Every so often I will open my box, unwrap each item and thank God for meeting me where I am and for fulfilling the dreams I believe He placed in my heart. Some promises came after heartbreak in the same area I was believing for breakthrough. For example, we lost our first baby, Charlie, before we had our oldest, Blaise. There are many prayers that have been answered and many that I’m still waiting on, but when the time came, it was beyond exciting to make withdrawals from my sweet box. I gladly withdrew the cute yellow underwear I purchased to one day wear for my husband, I wore the dress I hoped would one day rest over my baby belly and I’ve use the adorable turtle bib on both of my sons. And there are more dreams in my box waiting to come to pass.

There are many ways you can put your dream box to use. You don’t have to purchase items to fill it, you can simply write statements of faith, cut out quotes and pictures from magazines, or only place one dream in it at a time and go from there. The purpose of the box is not an attempt to use Jesus as a genie in a bottle, but to make your vision plain and attach faith to it.

I had this bib in my dream box for years and Blaise was absolutely worth every prayer and worth the wait.

It’s never too late to create your own dream box—or bless someone else with one. Use part of this season to begin believing God for the miracles that are whispering to your heart.
